[English] Objective: To analyze the time interval for returning to periodontal maintenance appointments and its impact on long-term clinical stability in patients attending the Dental Clinic at Unibe. Materials and methods: After obtaining approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC), a non-probabilistic convenience sample was selected, comprising patient records from the Diagnostic area between January and April 2019. Included patients had commenced periodontitis treatment in 2019 and had received definitive discharge. Following the collection of relevant data including periodontal parameters and history of periodontal maintenance appointments, descriptive statistical analyses were performed. Results: Patients in the study sample demonstrated inadequate adherence to periodontal maintenance appointments (initial phase at 4.68 months’ post-periodontal discharge, SD=4.53; 0.15 visits per year, SD=0.18; maintenance appointments every 8.66 months, SD=2.51). The available data did not allow for a comprehensive analysis of the impact on long-term clinical stability. Conclusions: Patients at the Dental Clinic of Unibe exhibit inadequate adherence to maintenance appointments regarding both annual frequency and interval between appointments. This poses a threat to long-term clinical stability, particularly in the context of systemic risk factors such as diabetes and smoking.
