Abstract: [Español] Introducción: Las personas con COVID-19 y en hemodiálisis, son parte del grupo de mayor mortalidad en esta pandemia. Identificar la efectividad de los protocolos de atención es la primera línea de prevención para la reducción de complicaciones. Objetivo: Determinar el impacto de las recomendaciones para el manejo de pacientes en tratamiento de hemodiálisis durante la pandemia del COVID-19 establecidas por el Ministerio de Salud Pública (MSP) de la República Dominicana. Métodos: Se aplicaron cuestionarios con preguntas dirigidas al personal de la salud y a 62 de los pacientes que recibieron tratamiento en la Unidad de Hemodiálisis del Hospital General Plaza de la Salud, para cuantificar el impacto de las recomendaciones establecidas. Este estudio fue realizado en el período abril-agosto de 2020, que comprende el inicio de la cuarentena y la reapertura total de la economía dominicana ante el estado de emergencia sanitaria por el COVID-19. Evaluamos el impacto de las recomendaciones del Ministerio de Salud Pública para el manejo intrahospitalario de los pacientes de las unidades de hemodiálisis. Resultados Obtenidos: La adherencia a las recomendaciones emitidas por el MSP permitió que la unidad de hemodiálisis del Hospital General Plaza de la Salud manejara una tasa de positividad SARS-COV-2 del 27% y con una tasa de letalidad de un 7% durante los meses de abril a agosto de 2020, siendo este último el mayor indicador para la eficiencia y eficacia de tales protocolos.
[English] Introduction: People with COVID-19 and on hemodialysis are part of the group with the highest mortality in this pandemic. Identifying the difficulty of care protocols is the first line of prevention for reducing complications. Objective: To determine the impact of the recommendations for the management of patients in the treatment of hemodialysis during the COVID-19 pandemic established by the Ministry of Public Health (MSH) of the Dominican Republic. Methods: Questionnaires with questions addressed to health personnel and to 62 of the patient’s receiving treatment in the Hemodialysis Unit of the Plaza de la Salud General Hospital was applied to quantify the impact of the established recommendations. This study was carried out in the April-August 2020 period, which includes the start of quarantine and the total reopening of the dominican economy in the face of the state of health emergency by COVID-19. We evaluated the impact of the Ministry of Public Health recommendations for the in-hospital management of patients in hemodialysis unit. Obtained Results: Adherence to the recommendations issued by the MSP allowed the hemodialysis unit of the Plaza de la Salud General Hospital to manage a SARS-COV-2 positivity rate of 27% and a mortality rate of 7% during the months of April to August 2020, the latter being the greatest indicator for the efficiency and effectiveness of such protocols.
