[English] The main objective of this study is to identify whether there is a significant relationship between the intensity of grief after a breakup and emotional intelligence. The research was aimed at students from various universities in the city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Young people of both sexes between 18 and 25 years old who have been in a love relationship. Married couples or couples living together. The sample of this study is non-probabilistic for convenience; therefore, we cannot make inferences from the entire population. Through this study establishes that if there is a relationship between both variables. The study obtained a Pearson r value of -0.852 indicating that a possible relationship between the variable’s emotional intelligence and grief intensity after a breakup may exist. Pearson r value is negative which means that both variables are inversely correlated, meaning, that a high emotional intelligence will present lower levels of breakup distress.
