[Español] El turismo de negocios y eventos (MICE, por sus siglas en inglés) representa un segmento estratégico dentro de la industria turística global. Esta investigación analiza los retos y oportunidades asociados a la consolidación de Santo Domingo como un destino competitivo en el ámbito del turismo de reuniones, incentivos, congresos y exposiciones. A través de un enfoque teórico-práctico, se evalúan factores clave como la infraestructura disponible, la calidad de los servicios, la conectividad aérea y terrestre, y el impacto económico de este segmento en la ciudad capital de la República Dominicana. El estudio incluye un análisis de las fortalezas locales, como la ubicación geográfica estratégica y el patrimonio cultural, junto con desafíos críticos relacionados con la sostenibilidad, la promoción internacional y la capacitación del capital humano. Asimismo, se identifican estrategias para fortalecer la posición de Santo Domingo en el mercado global MICE, promoviendo una sinergia entre el sector público y privado.
[English] Business and event tourism (MICE) represents a strategic segment within the global tourism industry. This research examines the challenges and opportunities associated with establishing Santo Domingo as a competitive destination in the field of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. Through a theoretical and practical approach, key factors such as available infrastructure, service quality, air and ground connectivity, and the economic impact of this segment on the Dominican Republic's capital are evaluated. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of local strengths, such as strategic geographical location and cultural heritage, along with critical challenges related to sustainability, international promotion, and human capital development. Additionally, it identifies strategies to enhance Santo Domingo’s position in the global MICE market by fostering synergy between the public and private sectors.
