[English] This quantitative study investigates how the variables of religiosity, spirituality and religious beliefs about mental illness are related to attitudes towards psychological services. In the population residing in the Dominican Republic, a country where more than 52.5% of the population identifies as Catholic and more than 21% states that they belong to the evangelical religion (Statistas, 2020). To analyze how these variables of religiosity, spirituality and religious beliefs about mental illness can relate to attitudes towards psychological services, a virtual survey was conducted with 154 participants that included measures of each of these variables. No correlation of spirituality and religiosity was found to be helpful when it comes to psychological help. However, a significant relationship was found between religious beliefs about mental illness and attitudes in seeking psychological help. The relationship between religious beliefs about mental illness and attitudes of seeking psychological help, and not with religiosity and spirituality, is explained by the dispute that mental illnesses have the possibility of being perceived in religious people as a spiritual problem rather than a psychological one. Which leads to the search for solutions corresponding to spiritual causes instead of psychological ones, such as: religious coping mechanisms, search for religious help, among others. The results of the study highlight the importance of addressing the religious beliefs of mental illnesses in the population of the Dominican Republic, in order to improve the attitude of seeking mental health services.
