[English] Introduction: The objective of this research paper was to determine the incidence of surgical complications of appendectomized patients with acute appendicitis, due to the importance of this affection that can compromise a population of any age and can bring serious health risks when appropriate health measures aren’t taken at the right time. Methods: It is an observational, retrospective descriptive study carried out by reviewing 150 clinical records out of which 82 met the inclusion criteria and disregarding those that corresponded to the exclusion criteria. Results: Among the results obtained, only 6% (n = 5) of the appendectomized patients presented with complications, with a gender distribution of 60% (n = 3) for females and 40% (n = 2). for males. The distribution of the group regarding the surgical procedure performed, complications were observed in patients undergoing Open Surgery in 60% (n = 3) and in those undergoing Laparoscopic Surgery in 40% (n = 2). In the age distribution, complications were more prevalent in the 18-22 age group with 40% (n = 2). In the group by time distribution from admission to procedure entry, patients who presented complications in 100% (n = 5) had a waiting time of more than 5 hours. Of the patients who developed complications, 60% (n = 3) had some comorbidity while 40% (n = 2) had no comorbidities. In the distribution based on the stage of appendicitis, complications were observed in 40% (n = 2) in perforated appendicitis, in 40% (n = 2) in suppurative appendicitis, and in 20% (n = 1) in congestive appendicitis. Regarding the hospitalization time of the patients who presented complications, 80% (n = 4) were hospitalized for more than 3 days, while only 20% (n = 1) were hospitalized for less than 3 days. Discussion: The data obtained shows a greater predisposition to postappendectomy surgical complications in female patients, who underwent open surgery in the age range of 18-22 years, suffering from acute perforated appendicitis, with a waiting time from admission to entry to surgical procedure that lasts more than 5 hours and with hospitalization period of more than 3 days.
