Eficacia de la terapia de mantenimiento en los tejidos periodontales y peri-implantarios

Abstract

[Español] Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia de la terapia de mantenimiento en los tejidos periodontales y peri-implantarios. Metodología: Se realizó una selección de artículos científicos donde se analizaron los títulos, resúmenes y textos completos de dichos estudios mediante bases de datos electrónicas avanzadas online en español e inglés, como PubMed, MedlinePlus, Ebscohost, Cochrane, Elsevier, Wiley Online Library, entre otros; publicados en un intervalo de tiempo entre 2012-2022. Discusión: En la información disponible se encontró que los factores más importantes para la efectividad de la fase de mantenimiento periodontal y peri-implantar son el grado de cumplimiento, la frecuencia y la motivación de los pacientes con esta. En diversos estudios no se encontraron diferencias significativas entre ellos. Conclusión: Para la fase de mantenimiento periodontal y peri-implantar es importante que el paciente siga todas las instrucciones de higiene oral indicadas por el odontólogo y acudir a sus citas de manera regular para así evitar la recurrencia de la enfermedad periodontal y peri-implantar como también ayudar al éxito del tratamiento.

[English] Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of maintenance therapy in periodontal and peri-implant tissues. Methods: A selection of scientific articles was made, where the titles, summaries and full texts of said studies were analyzed through advanced online electronic databases in Spanish and English, such as PubMed, MedlinePlus, Ebscohost, Cochrane, Elsevier, Wiley Online Library, among others; published in a time interval between 2012-2022. Discussion: In the available information, it was found that the most important factors for the effectiveness of the periodontal and peri-implant maintenance phase are the degree of compliance, the frequency and the motivation of the patients with it. In several studies, no significant differences were found between them. Conclusion: For the periodontal and peri-implant maintenance phase, it is important that the patient follows all the oral hygiene instructions indicated by the dentist and attends their appointments on a regular basis in order to avoid the recurrence of periodontal and peri-implant disease as well as help to the success of the treatment.
