[English] Objective: The general objective of this research is to compare etch and rinse and self-etching adhesive systems on dentin. Methods: A review of the literature was carried out by evaluating four search sources: Scielo, Elsevier, PubMed and Google Scholar, from which the sixty most relevant articles published between 2004-2020 were chosen. The following keywords were used as search criteria: adhesives, dentin, self-etch, etch and rinse, dental bonding. When reviewing the selected articles, the adhesive strength of the different systems was extracted and then averaged. Results: The best results were obtained with the three-step dentin etch and rinse systems averaging 32 Mpa, followed by the two-step self-etch systems averaging 26 Mpa, then the two-step etch and rinse systems averaging 23 Mpa, and finally the one-step self-etch systems averaging 21 Mpa. Conclusions: Based on the analysis of the results, it is affirmed that there are statistically significant differences between the adhesion levels of the etch and wash and self-etching systems, the former being superior in dentin. It is recommended to follow a rigorous protocol at the time of adhesion to this substrate, being evidenced as a strict and delicate procedure.
