[English] The main objective of this literature review is to be able to identify what consequences exist when acid etching is placed for a long time on teeth, whether on enamel or dentin. After understanding the characteristics of enamel and dentin, different methods for the adhesion of restorative materials emerged, highlighting acid etching as the first option, with the goal of finding the type of acid, concentration and ideal time to be able to provide a successful adhesion of restorative materials on dental tissue. Nowadays, is possible to identify the types and concentrations of acids used to etch on the dental surface, however, the time that this is placed has not been able to be established in a specific way, but it has been proposed to follow an estimate that ranges between the 15 to 30 seconds. In this same area, it has not been possible to share specific information on what adverse effects acid etching could cause when it is placed without following the established parameters, especially when it is placed for a long time, which is a very common fact among professionals, either because they don’t count seconds per seconds as they should or don’t know the correct time in which it should be placed. In conclusion, among the adverse effects we can highlight hypersensitivity, excessive porosity in the dentinal microtubules and softening of the hard surfaces of the tooth.
